Week 9

  Love alarm is an App that lets people know id there are people around you who like you. This motivates many couples to date together. Some people who are not tell their true thoughts have successfully found their significant other through this App. However, all things have pros and cons. Some bad people use this App to do bad things. And there are some people who like the same sax and they don't want to or dare to say their feelings, but this App makes them have to say their thoughts. This plot is very creative. But it is an App that is impossible in real life. I think the most similar to this App is the heart rate watch. (If you see someone you like, your heartbeat will speed up, hahahaha 😆) Apart from this somewhat fantasy background, this is just a love story. The story itself has nothing that appeals to me. It is a very common story of a love triangle. However, I really want to see the end. Because I saw the trailer for the second season and felt different from my expectations, so I was so nervous now. Anyway, please broadcast the second season soon~😭


  Love Alarm is indeed a typical k-drama. It fits my impression of k-drama in terms pf plot and actor selection. The protagonists are very beautiful, which has also prompted many people to fall into the fantasy of love. I don't know if it is my stereotype of k-drama. I think most of the k-drama are idealized, including the living environment and love experience. However, many people have invested too much emotion in this. They feel that this kind of love will happen to themselves. This is not good. I have also watched many k-drama, and now I think about it, There are indeed similarities in the plots about love. When I watched it before, I haven't found out that most of the k-dramas have two boys like one girl or two girls like one boy. This may be a common routine used by k-drama before.


  In general, the popularity of k-drama must have its reasons. It can help people get out of their hard and unhappy lives. When looking at it, the body and mind are happy. This is how I feel about k-drama. I think works that make me happy are good works.

    I agree that the plots for K-dramas are very common (love triangles). But I think that it's similar to Hollywood cinema in that regard since we know that it'll start calmly, reach a climax, and finally a resolution. It's just fun to watch K-dramas but we can't get it confused with reality.

    I agree that over-investment in fantastical narratives can be unhealthy. However, escapism like this can be very rewarding as long as you maintain your sense of perspective.

    As far as I know, most Chinese thought that this film didn’t reflect real Chinese and Chinese culture. From some aspects, like the living style, the clothing style, and the “Chinese thoughts” in the film. For example, in the film, we can know that Mrs. Yang doesn’t like Rachel because she is an America. But in China, we don’t have this kind of prejudice. Something like that.   But for me, I think that this film maybe truly reflected some people who are really rich. But nothing is absolute. Also, I think that the reason why some Chinese don’t like this film is that the story is not attractive. Because when I saw the film at the first half, I can know what will happen next and how is the ending going.    Kim's Convenience gave me the feeling that it was a bit funny at first, but not so funny. It's like saying something funny on purpose, but it makes me unable to laugh. Maybe it's because I am not very sensitive to this type of drama. Some jokes are a little bit too common. But as a whole, after seeing it, I feel that this is a great comedy.   But in terms of the interpretation of the character's personality, I think this drama makes me really like it. Mr. Kim here showed a very mean feeling in the first half of each episode, make me didn't like him very much at the beginning. But at the end of each episode, he always showed his love for children and a gentle but awkward side.     This week, we saw Margaret Cho's show: PsyCHO. A t first, when I was watching, I couldn't understand what she was talking about. Because the jokes and humor in America are really different from Asia. So that I cannot understand why she was always talking about the topic of sex. But after I saw the whole show and read the materials, I start to understand her.   As I said before, many facts are told through jokes. This is the best way to tell others what you can't or don't want to say. Therefore, as an Asian American, Margaret Cho told some of the things she has experienced, as well as some bad things that others have experienced, such as sexual assault, through this show. This allows the public to pay attention to those victims and speak for them.    Margaret Cho talked about many "taboo" topics in this show. This is something I did not expect.
