This documentary truly records the lives of Cambodian refugees in the United States. In the form of a video diary, the audience can see their daily status more closely. In my opinion, this kind of experimental documentary is suitable for researchers to watch. For ordinary audiences, they maybe have no interest in watching this type of film. So, this is the difference between an experimental documentary and Hollywood film. One is to ask for benefits while entertaining, and the other is to follow one's own preferences and the direction of research. It can be seen that one is "need" and the other is "want." In essence, there is a difference.

As far as I know, most Chinese thought that this film didn’t reflect real Chinese and Chinese culture. From some aspects, like the living style, the clothing style, and the “Chinese thoughts” in the film. For example, in the film, we can know that Mrs. Yang doesn’t like Rachel because she is an America. But in China, we don’t have this kind of prejudice. Something like that.   But for me, I think that this film maybe truly reflected some people who are really rich. But nothing is absolute. Also, I think that the reason why some Chinese don’t like this film is that the story is not attractive. Because when I saw the film at the first half, I can know what will happen next and how is the ending going. And maybe that’s because I saw too many TV shows in China, and a few years ago, several of these kind of films or novels have been made in China.     But in general, I like the part that Rachel played Mahjong ( 麻将 /Majiang in Chinese) with Mrs. Yang. Rachel delib...

Kim's Convenience gave me the feeling that it was a bit funny at first, but not so funny. It's like saying something funny on purpose, but it makes me unable to laugh. Maybe it's because I am not very sensitive to this type of drama. Some jokes are a little bit too common. But as a whole, after seeing it, I feel that this is a great comedy.   But in terms of the interpretation of the character's personality, I think this drama makes me really like it. Mr. Kim here showed a very mean feeling in the first half of each episode, make me didn't like him very much at the beginning. But at the end of each episode, he always showed his love for children and a gentle but awkward side. All these make Mr. Kim's character more three-dimensional, and I like him very much.     The difference between the two generations of Korean Canadians can be seen from this play. Both Mr. Kim and Mrs. Kim retained the traditional Asian thinking, but Janet is obviously different. Just li...

Love alarm is an App that lets people know id there are people around you who like you. This motivates many couples to date together. Some people who are not tell their true thoughts have successfully found their significant other through this App. However, all things have pros and cons. Some bad people use this App to do bad things. And there are some people who like the same sax and they don't want to or dare to say their feelings, but this App makes them have to say their thoughts. This plot is very creative. But it is an App that is impossible in real life. I think the most similar to this App is the heart rate watch. (If you see someone you like, your heartbeat will speed up, hahahaha 😆) Apart from this somewhat fantasy background, this is just a love story. The story itself has nothing that appeals to me. It is a very common story of a love triangle. However, I really want to see the end. Because I saw the trailer for the second season and felt different from my expectatio...

Bling Empire, a reality television, it records the daily life of a group of wealthy Asian Americans. When I watched it, I really watched it as a leisure and entertainment video, but there is nothing worthy of serious study. However, I have to say that this documentary is still worth discussing.   First of all, I want to talk about their lives. After watching the video, we know that they can go to Paris by plane for just a meal. They can call the Dior counter to choose clothes at home. They can also experience being a flight attendant because they like to experience it. All of these, someone will definitely say that they are very extravagant. However, my first thought was, isn't this what they can do? They were born in such a wealthy family without the troubles of life. Isn't it normal to do such things? This society is like this, there is no absolute fairness, just enjoy yourself.   Secondly, let's talk about their character. In fact, I think some of them still very rea...

Week 7

After watching this documentary, there are two main feelings. One is how to view others, and the other is how to view ourselves.   How to treat others depends mainly on whether you can overcome discrimination. In our lives, discrimination is no longer limited to race. Gender, age, color, and nationality. Some things cannot be changed, but people become victims or perpetrators for no reason.   How to identify with ourselves. How to deal with with ourselves in an incompatible environment, and how to deal with ourselves in a familiar environment. This is like the problems faced by the Issei and Nisei. the experience of Asian immigrants also gives the answer: struggle. Whether it is a struggle to enhance personal abilities or a struggle for fairness and justice. To make progress, we must struggle. Achievements obtained through hard work are the foundation of one's life and self-confidence in self-identity.   This documentary also makes people reflect. As a Chinese and ...

As an Asian, I really like Asian entertainment culture. This is the reason why I want to study film and music, and then return to China to work in the entertainment industry. The K-pop we watched this week is indeed very popular all over the world. This was discovered after I came to the United States. This shows that Asian Americans have made great contributions in this regard. I am vert happy to see the output of Asian culture. K.YOON said in the article that K-pop is mixed culture. I totally agree with this. When I discussed this issue with my friends before, I also said that combinations like BTS and Blackpink are popular internationally, although they are also popular in Korea. The reason is that their music contains very international things, like BTS's Boy With Luv  we watched this week. They invited a "foreigner" to sing their English part. In addition, I am very interested in their English lyrics. Because I am not a native English speaker, I am very curious what ...
